What to expect when porting your phone number(s)
We want to review with you what to expect when you are porting you're phone numbers. Please take a few moments to review this so you know what to expect from your phone systems, time lines, downtimes, and more information.
It's VERY IMPORTANT to keep your current service active.
If you cancel your current phone service before your porting activation date and time, you risk loosing your numbers. The FCC has policies assuring that you 'own' your numbers so long as you are maintaining an active and current account with them.
Required Documents
RED1 requires the following documents to submit a porting request
- Letter of Authorization(LOA) Please download and fill out in full.
- Last Invoice from current carrier dated within the last 30 days.
Porting types and time frames
RED1 abides by applicable FCC standards, requirements, and recommendations for number porting. Because the type of port request submitted can affect porting time frames - some of which are recommended and others required - this guide should provide a better idea of what to expect. Keep in mind, however, that industry standards and practices are subject to change.
Note: All time intervals below are contingent upon the authorized end user’s information provided to RED1 being correct so that it matches the current/losing carrier’s applicable records. If the requisite information doesn't match, the time interval for porting will be longer. Please keep in mind that because RED1 can't predict any errors in processing, or the behaviors of other carriers, all quoted times below are Bandwidth’s goal to get the order completed, and can't be guaranteed for all cases.
| Port type | Estimated porting interval |
| Standard or off-net port | 3-7 business days |
| Simple port | 1-2 business days |
| Complex or non-simple port | 3-4 weeks |
| Project port | 3-4 weeks |
| Toll-free port | 3-7 business days |
If you would like to activate your numbers later than an ASAP timeline, please communicate this to your technician. Numbers can be delayed activation up to 2 weeks from the initial submission.
Downtime
In normal porting procedure, we do not expect any long windows of downtime. Though we do advise that there can be upto 30minute to 1 hour of some callers may experience issues reaching you at your porting numbers if some of the carriers dont update or have slow updating processing times on their backend infrastructure.
Activation and Configuration
We activate numbers at the specified time of your port automatically to your services. We strongly recommend that you work with your technician and discuss your intended call flow for your new numbers so that they can be programmed ahead of your activation porting date so that calls start flowing automatically after the number automatically activates and does not add unnecessary downtime.
